Denpasar Airport

Denpasar Airport is the 3rd busiest international airport in Indonesia after Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Surabaya’s Juanda International Airport. The main name of the airport is Bali Ngurah Rai International Airport, which is located in south Bali – 13 km south of Denpasar.

The airport is named after the Indonesian National Hero named I Gusti Ngurah Rai, who died in 1946 in a fight against the Dutch. Reaching the airport is not that tough task to ask for. However, the airport is not situated in the vicinity of the city of Denpasar, rather it can be said that it is situated much closer to Kuta and Legian areas near Tuban.

Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai is the road that is to be taken to reach the airport. Denpasar Airport has just one runway, which is 9,842 feet long. The domestic arrival and departure terminal area sums up to 9.039 sq. m. with the total area of the international arrival and departure terminals is 28.630 sq. m. The domestic terminal is in the old building whereas the international terminal is in the newer L shaped building.

The airport possesses 17 gates in total – splitting into 3 in the domestic terminal and 14 in the international terminal. A total of 35 check-in counters are seen in the domestic terminal with 2 baggage carousels. The international terminal building is constructed with the Balinese architectural theme in mind with separate arrival and departure halls. Denpasar Airport houses up to 4,938,840 passengers a year.

The international terminal has a total of 62 check-in counters that are equipped with electronic scales and luggage conveyors. The international terminal has highly modern and state-of-the-art technology with aerobridges in eight of the gates and with automated aircraft parking system. The airport has the facility of the fleet of buses running to take passengers between aircraft and the terminal because of insufficient number of gates to accommodate passengers. Flights from all over the world operate in this busy airport.

Foreign airlines like Thai Airways, Cathay Pacific, Australian Airlines, Japan Airlines, Korean Airlines, American Airlines, Quantas, Air Canada, Gulf Air, Malaysia Airlines, JetLite etc. are among the operating airlines to Bali Airport. Not only the international players, but also many domestic airlines also serve the airport. Garuda Airlines is one the big name in the business, but less renowned carriers like Sriwijaya Air, Air Paradise and Batavia Air also serve the airport.
